Save Your Skin! Avoid This Skincare Product!

Most would only put skincare and snail mucin in a different sentence. But recently, snail mucin has taken over the skincare market. Selling out on all platforms, everyone is rushing to buy this viral product. But this product is undoubtedly only for some. Let me tell you why.

What is snail mucin?

Snail mucin is the mucus collected off the back of the snail. This mucus is described as antimicrobial. We also provide hydrating effects to the skin. Snail mucin is clear and odorless, having a liquid-to-jelly consistency. It is best utilized on damp, clean skin. Substituted as a moisturizer or added before a moisturizer.

Sounds appealing; what's the problem? Here's my experience.

For context, I am a 21-year-old female with combination skin. I have an oily T-zone with an abundance of dry spots. My skin is even more complex as it is extremely sensitive and acne-prone. I have tried various prescription topicals and oral medications. I finally found a retinoid routine that works for me.

I experimented with Snail Mucin, as it would be an added benefit for my skin. Boy, was I wrong!

For about a week, I followed the instructions provided. Using CosRX Snail Mucin, I would pat the product directly to my dry, clean face, free of moisturizer. And I noticed a collection of closed comedones breaking through along my jawline. So, I believed that I might need additional moisturization. I added moisturizer on top of the snail mucin. This further exacerbated the issue, and I found my skin purging. My face was broken out in painful acne marks. I was sure the snail mucin was the cause, as I had stayed consistent with my other skin care products: La Roche-Posay Double Repair Moisturizer, Cerave Sensitive Skin Face Wash, and once-a-week Akleve.

After I discontinued using the product, my skin was in shambles for over two weeks. However, it cleared up after discontinuing usage and returning to my prior skincare regimen.

Below I've included unaltered images of my skin while using snail mucin.

This is not a unique experience.

A few days after my skin had fully recovered, I found that a TikTok influencer had a similar experience as I. Jade Amber had shared her struggle with her skin following her Snail Mucin use. Parallel to that mine, Jade Amber's skin broke out to the point she had to seek medical care from a licensed Dermatologist. And with her viral review, others came forward with similar stories. Please refer to the linked videos for more on her and others' stories.

My final thoughts:

Now, beauty babes, this is a personal review, so please remember that my opinion is mine, and I encourage you to try these products for yourself. Everyone's skin is different. Snail mucin is marketed as safe for all skin types. However, I would NOT recommend this product to those who have acne-prone and sensitive skin. It causes more trouble than it's worth.

Snail Mucin is NOT Beauty Babe approved.
